What is PlaceOnPoints

PlaceOnPoints will take one object, and clone it on every point of another object. Or even clone them onto the object Polygons if you wish with auto alignment!

Requirements

Cinema 4D Release 8 for Windows or Mac

Installation

Simply extract the zip into your Cinema 4D's Plugin folder

Usage

Creating the following object is easy with PlaceOnPoints. Click the image to see full-sized view

1.

Add a Torus and a Cone to your scene

2.

Add a PlaceOnPoints Object to your scene by clicking it under the Plugin's menu

3.

The order in which the objects are added into the PlaceOnPoints object is important. The second object will be cloned around the first object. Drag both the Cone and Torus under the PlaceOnPoints object, making sure the Torus is the first object

4.

If you look in the viewport you can see the cone is much to large. On the Cones Attribute Manager change the radius settings to the picture on the right

5.

You can see now in the viewport the cones are a nice small size, but they are in the wrong places. If you make the Torus Editable you can see the cones have been placed on the Points of the torus, we need them placed on the polygons.

Simply click Place On Polygons? in the attribute manager of the PlaceOnPoints Object.

6.

Uh Oh, The cones have rotated the wrong way! Although this is a nice effect, we want our cones to point out of the object, but don't worry this is easy to fix!

Simply change the Orientation of the Cone to +Z using the attribute manager. You cones will now point the right way

WHOA WHOA WHOA, why did we need to change the orientation of the cone to +Z??

Well, PlaceOnPoints will point the Z direction of the object in the same direction each polygon is facing. All you have to remember is +Z is the top of your object, -Z is the bottom of your object

You can now make the PlaceOnPoints Editable and modify any of the clones as you wish.
